Juror’s Show Statement
It’s been an honor to spend time with these artworks, each clearly the product of invested time, devoted energy, and creative curiosity. I am interested in artwork that demonstrates a high level of skill but is also able to communicate more-through concept or feeling. The works that stood out to me the most combined all three. There are many excellent examples on view and many more I wish I could have included. It is excellent to see such a wide variety of artwork created here, and I applaud all of the artists who made work and took the time to submit it to this show. Thank you for the opportunity to jury this!

Best of Show
“NATURE’S ABUNDANCE”
NANCY FRANKENFIELD
“By limiting the color palette to golden yellows, luminous greens, and rusty reds, the artist creates a peaceful, natural scene. Directional brush strokes repeated over the image move towards abstraction, nicely balanced with representation. The scale makes it easy to absorb oneself into the scene.”
First Place
“VIVACIOUS”
MIQUELA MUNDY
“Though nature is referenced in tree trunks and leaf shapes, the painting quickly moves into a playful and dreamlike place – where is the ground and where is the sky? Colors are heightened, mark making moves quickly and frenetically at times, controlled elsewhere. Lots of energy!”
Second Place
“ED #20”
JOAN BROWN
“Organic shapes morph into references to manufactured decorative elements-the texture of fabric, ruffles and faux pearl edging. Together, they create a surreal form of fragile beauty.”
Third Place
“PIECES OF ME”
RAY WALLEN
“The shallow space depicts a cabinet of curiosities, each carefully rendered, though some objects remain painterly mysteries and the central spot is left intentionally empty, held for the future.”
