Juror’s Show Statement
It was a pleasure working with the more than able folks of the Findlay Art League, selecting work for the “Spaces That Define Our Lives” exhibition.
I feel the combination of being a long-time working artist and equally long-time Art educator makes me more open to what I might call, the deeper quality of a work of Art. Anyone can approach a work on a purely technical level and dismiss said piece because of perceived lack thereof. I would prefer to ask what the artist is conveying in terms of content or meaning, simultaneously taking in style and technique in the viewing /evaluation process.
I often try to imagine a particular piece hanging in my home, some place where I can sort of, “slip into it “ whenever I choose. There were any number of pieces in this show that I found myself ”slipping into.”
